German Debut of »125 Party Pieces«

125 composers – 1 work. The »125 Party Pieces« are the hitherto most comprehensive joint composition in the world. A total of 125 male and female composers (including 63 of the most acclaimed composers either of German nationality or living in Germany) took part in the work, each contributing five beats or one minute of music.
This has produced a monumental ring composition for oboe, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, percussion, accordion, piano, violin, viola and violoncello. Although none of the composers knew who preceded or followed them and even though the sequences and divisions were random, the entire composition displays clear aesthetic linking elements. The work is a unique shop window on composition of the present day. Never before was there an opportunity to bring together the musical signature styles of so many artists on one single evening.
Invited for the German debut supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation was Ensemble Either/Or under the baton of Richard Carrick from New York, who also conducted the premiere in November 2013. Carrick and his musicians convince the audience with a sensitive and artistically delicate approach to this great challenge of constantly changing musical languages.
