Matthias Pinscher's Cosmos

HamburgMusik gGmbH – Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle Betriebsgesellschaft, Hamburg, Germany

“Matthias Pinscher's Cosmos” is part of an extended portrait series of the Elbphilharmonie that is receiving the support of the EvS Music Foundation. Here contemporary universal musicians Matthias Pintscher, Peter Eötvös and George Benjamin will be appearing as composers, conductors, curators, instructors and contact persons thereby conveying a multi-dimensional picture of their creativity.
Starting with the 2016/17 season each artist will make their mark on one Elbphilharmonie season. At the focus each time will be some five concerts featuring outstanding ensembles. Designed by the artists and largely conducted by themselves, the programs open up new perspectives from a music history point of view by presenting a cross-section of the artists’ own work and relating this to works by other composers.
Each season-specific “Cosmos” is divided into different elements: concerts, panel discussions, masterclasses for composition students as well as a “Cosmos Day” featuring lectures, interviews and chamber music.
The concerts also remain as a stand-alone series under the heading “... Cosmos” and will be presented, amongst other things, as part of the International Music Festival Hamburg and at the Greatest Hits – Festival for Contemporary Music.
The world-class orchestras taking part include the Lucerne Festival Academy, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the German Chamber Philharmonic Bremen, the Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest Amsterdam, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Ensemble Modern.
