OPER.A 20.21

Stiftung Haydn von Bozen und Trient, Bolzano, Italy

After early 2015 when the foundation Stiftung Haydn von Bozen und Trient was conferred with the management of Bolzano’s traditional theater and thus the planning of opera activities in Bolzano and Trient it set itself the task of highlighting the 20th and 21st centuries in its program. For this the OPER.A 20.21 project was developed that is being supported by the EvS Music Foundation.
The 2016/17 season stands under the heading Love and other cruelties. Love as the largest and thereby also the most painful, inhumane thing that can happen to anyone. Love as the trigger of pain, anger, rage, hate, murder – where else than on the opera stage do we encounter this deepest of human emotions, become witnesses to everything this ‘love’ motif can trigger and where else can we see what is achieved in the name of love and what crimes are committed?
The project therefore shifts love centerstage with four operas of the 21st century.

The works to be performed are:

George Benjamin: Written on Skin

Iain Bell: A Christmas Carol, making its Italian debut

Toshio Hosokawa: The Raven

Luca Francesconi: Quartet
