Wilhelm Killmayer. A Music Festival marking his 90th Birthday

In August 2017 the music world will be celebrating the 90^th birthday of Munich composer Wilhelm Killmayer who, like no other, stands for a consistently undogmatic and independent approach to New Music in the second half of the 20^th century. Wilhelm Killmayer’s round birthday will now serve as the public occasion to honor his work in a comprehensive event. This music festival will be supported by the EvS Music Foundation. Forming a focal point of the program here will be the (repeat) performance of the composer’s rarely played works, in particular also from the early 1950s as well as his late works. Beyond this seven commissioned pieces – making reference to Wilhelm Killmayer’s oeuvre – will reflect his music in the context of the present day.
