19th Festival Slowind 2017 – Enzyklopädie der Musik / Encyclopedia of Music

Glasbeno drustvo Slowind, Ljubljana, Slovenia

The 19th Slowind Festival in 2017 entitled Enzyklopädie der Musik focalizes the intertwining of music with the most varied social, political, musicological and religious aspects as well as unchangeable archetypes and connections that are far apart in time. For this reason, a large part of the festival program, that is being supported by the EvS Music Foundation, will for the first time comprise Old Music by Perotinus, Gallus, Froberger and Muffat together with works by composers who have or had a special relationship with Old Music like Bernd Alois Zimmermann, Klaus Huber, Alberto Posadas and Brice Pauset. However, works by present day composers will feature to an equal great extent – including those by Steffen Mahnkopf, Carter, Lachenmann, Urška Pompe, Larisa Vrhunc and Steven Kazuo Takasugi – composers whose music at first sight seems to have no relationship with the past of over 200 years ago but whose essential core is as progressive, searching, narrative, convincing, contemplative or provocative as the music of the past.
