4:3 // KAMMER MUSIK NEU/CHAMBER MUSIC NEW

Hellerau European Center for the Arts, Dresden, Germany

4:3 // KAMMER MUSIK NEU is the title of a new annual event in Hellerau that is very much devoted to contemporary chamber music. 4:3 – this might for instance stand for the integer ratio of the perfect fourth, represent a rhythmic ratio or describe ratios of size or weight – and it can also stand for quartet and trio. So, the title 4:3 whets the audience’s appetite for the program in store.

As part of 4:3 // KAMMER MUSIK NEU classics of contemporary composition will in future also be featured alongside new compositions and premieres, and younger and unconventional formations will also be presented alongside the concerts featuring established and successful ensembles. The first item on the program for 4:3 is devoted to Hans Zender ‑ one of the most important composers of the present day and also a great teacher of music. The performance of his composition Hölderlin lesen (Reading Hölderlin) for string quartet and voice will also present the successful work of up-and-coming talents from the International Ensemble Modern Academy. A quartet made up of this year’s graduates will be performing Zender’s piece in a treatment featuring singer Salome Kammer. A key item in the program on the second day is the final concert of the annual young talents’ project (COMPOSERS’ CLASS DRESDEN). After mentoring during the composition phase, this year care of the string quartet Quatuor Bozzini and composer Brigitta Muntendorf, the pupils’ compositions will be presented in a concert. The third day of 4:3 forms the conclusion of the festival for contemporary chamber music with a chamber concert by the Canadian quartet Quatuor Bozzini and an ambitious program featuring the likes of Luigi Nono’s Fragmente-Stille, An Diotima.
