Biennale Musiques en Scene 2016 – Lyon

GRAME, Lyon, France

In 2016 the Biennale Musiques en Scène is dedicated to one of the central developments of the digital era: “Entertainment 2.0”. Entertainment is without doubt the most important component in today’s digital age. Modern man is entertained all the time and everywhere, thousands of pieces of information are constantly, directly and immediately transmitted.

Our time is limited more and more, our attention is split and distracted. Can there be any room left for music if our consciousness is divided, overrun and blocked by the mass of information? Today, zapping is a common means to ingest information as quickly as possible. In this age of constant “switching” every individual has to rethink their relationship with music.

Once again supported by the EvS Music Foundation, in 2016 the Biennale Musiques en Scène revolves around this theme. It explores the potential of new artistic forms. In his works Dutch artist and composer Michel van der Aa reflects our manipulation by digital media. His pieces are presented at the festival. Van der Aa possesses an extraordinary theatrical instinct that not only makes his music a listening experience but also a visual event of astonishing poetry.

The festival also features an educational project for schools and universities also offering some events for a larger audience.
