Bludenz Contemporary Music Festival

Bludenz Contemporary Music Festival, Austria

The 2020 festival presents nine premieres and six concerts in the Austrian city of Bludenz. The program consists of music of the 21st century with the 2020 edition featuring just one piece from the 20th century.

The focus of the festival is on the performance of commissioned works, the promotion of young composers in master classes and the dissemination of contemporary music in the Vorarlberg region. Ensemble Mosaik will open the festival with compositions by Sara Glojnarić, Andrea Mancianti and premieres by Kelley Sheehan and Joshua Mastel. In the second concert Giorgio Netti's cycle Il ciclo dell'assedio will be performed in its entirety for the first time. On the third evening of the festival Trio Catch will perform works by Beat Furrer, Jonah Haven and Daniela Terranova. Presented on the following day will be two pieces from Éliane Radigue's Occam Delta series. The last day of the festival will feature not one but two concerts: in the morning, for the third time in a row, Carola Bauckholt will present six premieres developed by composition students in workshops. In the afternoon, the trio constellation Faint Noise with its unique instrumentation of violin, double bass recorder and acoustic objects will perform the Austrian premieres of Carola Bauckholt's bird-imitating Doppelbelichtung (Double Exposure) and Timothy McCormack's The Chain of the Spine.
