“East Asia Modern”, FORUM OF NEW MUSIC 2015

The international workshop festival for New Music FORUM NEUER MUSIK organized by broadcaster Deutschlandfunk bundles together exclusive concerts, tertiary level educational cooperations as well as lectures, discussions and texts focusing on annually changing, key socio-cultural themes. The FORUM promotes younger composers from throughout the world and works with renowned and young performers in addition to issuing composition commissions. All concerts are broadcast nationally.
The 16th edition of the festival in April 2015 is dedicated to the theme of  East Asia “Ostasien”. This is a region that saw its first encounter with the modern age in the wake of colonialism – experiencing this as a cultural failure – but one which is now rapidly developing into a new geopolitical center. In 10 events the 2015 FORUM reflects this shift in East Asia – mainly in the musical and cultural sphere in and with the help of New Music. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the opening concert “Young Asia” where Ensemble Phoenix Basel will perform works by young composers from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.
