Festival Archipel 2018: „Ecce Robo“

Archipel Festival, Musiques d'aujourd'hui, Geneva, Switzerland

In existence since 1992 Geneva-based festival Archipel bears the motto “Ecce Robo” in 2018 – when it focuses, in particular, on the thematic complex Man and Machine as well as on the robotization of music creation processes – a longstanding fundamental topic in contemporary music. With its new focal theme Archipel shed lights on relevant issues pertaining to artificial intelligence that have preoccupied music history from the past few decades to the present day. In this context the Festival in 2018 is planning 34 events including concerts, installations, lectures and workshops that are, on the one hand, reserved for professional musicians and, on the other, to be made accessible to a wider audience. A total of 42 ensembles will perform the most varied selection of contemporary music – from Xenakis, Stockhausen, Yun, Riotte and Lucier through to Donatoni, Hauer or Hiller. As part of the festival and led by the composers Michael Jarrell and Stefano Gervasoni an academy for aspiring composers will also be held, among others, together with the Geneva Music Academy. Festival participants include Cologne’s Asasello Quartett, Berlin’s KNM Ensemble as well as the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart. Also invited are the composers Nuria Gimenez-Comas, David Hudry, Olga Neuwirth, Hector Parra, Alberto Posadas and Katharina Rosenberger.
