Festival Tacec Generación

Container Association, La Roche sur Foron, France

The Festival Tacec Generación seeks to set up a radical and committed scene for music of the present day. It is not only a festival but also a hacking space for the New Music culture in South America. Hosted at the second largest opera house in Argentina, the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, heavily defined by rules of 19th century repertoire, this festival seeks to problematize creative processes, thus generating new social relationships.

The main axes of activity will be: the international and the local concert series, the “Generation School” and the foundation of the Container#BA ensemble. In the concert series, Norwegian singer Maja Ratkje and her post-punk vocal performance techniques will collide with the infinitesimal gestures of cellist Severine Ballon. The most famous European composer of our time, Simon Steen-Andersen, will play alongside the anti-academic Colombian composer Eblis Alvarez and The Meridian Brothers. To complete this picture, Trio Catch will perform a mixed program of early 21st century classics in addition to works especially commissioned for this festival. “Generation School” will give young composers and performers from the province of Buenos Aires, the rest of Argentina and around the world the opportunity to work with all guest artists. On the basis of a three-day workshop, conferences by Maja Ratjke and Eblis Alvarez, a total of ten new pieces will be premiered by Severine Ballon and the invited trios under the guidance of Simon Steen-Andersen and Trio Catch.

The premiere of Black Box Music will be performed by the new ensemble Container#BA ‒ featuring musicians from Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay ‒ along with Latin American premieres by Ricardo Eizirik, Jorge Sánchez-Chiong, and the premiere of a selected commissioned work issued to young Argentine composers by the TACEC. All activities will take place around TACEC, the Experimental Center of Teatro Argentino, conducted by Luciano Azzigotti, composer and founder of Container platform.
