Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2017

Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Utrecht, Netherlands

The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation supports the international festival Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2017. The festival focuses on the presentation of the quality, diversity and vitality of international young music pioneers. It helps them in their international career by first bringing them together in an Academy for rehearsals, workshops, meetings and discussions, and next by giving their works a podium through international high profile performers in the festival.

During the first week of the festival, there are extensive rehearsals with several ensembles, workshops with famous musicians, lectures by famous composers, private lessons by the members of the jury, meetings and discussions set up in such a way that also the public can come close to the creators and their creative process.

In the second week, the Academy follows a week of concerts and presentations. Gaudeamus moves on the "cutting edge" of contemporary classical music: more than 90% of the programmed compositions are new and recent works only of international talented young composers who are at the beginning of their international career. At Gaudeamus they are enabled a professional podium where their work is performed at a high level, where they can test it with their colleagues and the public; they take big steps in their career by the international setting, commissions such as the Gaudeamus Award and international coproductions with Ulysses Network, SPOR festival and MATA in New York.
