Label Suisse 2018: Programm zeitgenössische Ernste Musik/Program of Serious Contemporary Music

Label Suisse, Lausanne, Switzerland

Exploration, accessibility and diversity have been the core values of Switzerland’s unique platform for music making – Label Suisse – since its founding in Lausanne in 2004. Every two years, this urban and popular festival invites established artists and the next generation from all music genres to showcase their latest projects as part of a sophisticated program. The various venues including a church, concert hall, small to large clubs and open-air stages create spaces for listening, exchanging and discovering this music in the heart of the city.

In addition to concerts from the realms of jazz, new folk music and pop-rock, around twelve concerts of contemporary classical music will be presented in 2018 including premieres. Both established and musicians of the next generation are involved. The offering is deliberately rich in contrasts. For example, a new work by the young composer Kevin Juillerat will be premiered based on six poems by E.E. Cummings. A further performance of Katharina Rosenberger's Modules is scheduled with Ensemble Nikel, featuring various "modules" alternating with four solos. Furthermore, visitors can look forward to a portrait concert featuring works like Manta-Mantra and Rofu for two pianos and percussion by Nik Bärtsch.

The aim of the festival is to promote established Swiss musicians and aspiring young talents by means of composition commissions, Swiss premieres and programs featuring contemporary repertoire. Furthermore, cooperation between musicians hailing from Switzerland’s different linguistic regions who have not yet worked together is to be fostered and intensified.
