Musica, Festival international des musiques d'aujourd'hui

Musica, festival international des musiques d'aujourd'hui de Strasbourg, France

Supported by the EvS Music Foundation, the 35th Musica Festival has three inter-related thematic focuses: passions, the expressiveness of the voice and a portrait of the Lebanese-born composer Zad Moultaka. Several concerts will deal with the “passion” theme – with performances of contemporary interpretations of the St. John Passion and the St Matthew Passion, Moultaka’s Passion selon Marie or the far less religious “Passion” by Sylvano Bussotti about the controversial Marquis de Sade. Zad Moultaka will present his own works in two further concerts including a composition commission by Musica that will be performed as a diptych of Monteverdi’s Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda.

For the young audience there will be performances of Lucia Ronchetti’s Les aventures de Pinocchio and workshops revolving around this work with Ensemble intercontemporain. Furthermore, a third composition academy for young composers from throughout the world will be held. The works developed as part of the academy will be performed at the end of the festival.
