Big Bang – Music Festival for Young Adventurers

KinderKinder e.V., Hamburg, Germany

“Big Bang” is a European project initiated by nine international and five Hamburg partners who together produce and stage non-commercial contemporary music for children. These partners give children the chance to experience outstanding music and become musically active themselves.
2016 will see the festival being held for the second time now at Hamburg’s Kampnagelfabrik with the support of the EvS Music Foundation. In addition to their own productions within the Big Bang network professional European productions will also be invited and there will be workshops, join-in activities and sound installations. In the so-called Nomad Project “travelling” musicians will work with Hamburg schoolchildren on a concert.
The colorful program offers many highpoints. For instance, Ensemble Resonanz will be presenting a multi-media version of Igor Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale”, the NDR Bigband will be performing Rainer Tempel’s composition “Erwin mit der Tröte” and from Portugal Joana Sá will be presenting her own compositions “In meinem Kopf”.
The goal of the project is to generate enthusiasm about New Music and sounds beyond the mainstream among Hamburg children attending the festival with their families, a school trip or their daycare group. The pre-requisite here is highest artistic standards and a staging that offers children ideal access to the material.
