Concert – Symposium: Wort, Ton, Gestalt. Kafka Fragmente Kurtág / Word, Sound, Shape. Kafka Fragments Kurtág

Institut für Philosophie at the University of Vienna

The interdisciplinary symposium with contributions from the latest Kafka research, from renowned German scholars, musicologists, philosophers, Finno-Ugric scholars and cultural scientists seeks to open up a variety of approaches to Kurtág’s work for a wider audience and, at the same time, to direct attention to Kafka. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the short symposium as part of Wien Modern 2017.

Based on the notion of synesthesia the previous concert symposium series Wort – Ton – Gestalt will now be continued with two new additions to the program: firstly the work Kafka – Fragment op. 24 by György Kurtág will be presented in the concert and as a video installation. Secondly, before the first concert there will be a reading entitled “Kafka Lesen: Klanggestalt und Schreibbild.” (Reading Kafka: Tonal Shape and Writing Image). The choice of texts is oriented here to small formats and the fragmentary, as featured by Kurtág as the basis for his composition.
