Composition Commissions issued to Joan Magrané and Sarah Nemtsov

Goethe Institute Madrid, Madrid, Spain

In 2016 Madrid’s Goethe Institute will be continuing its event series “INTERACCIONES XXI – Spanisch-deutsche Begegnung zur Zeitgenössischen Musik” (Interactions XXI – Spanish-German Meeting on Contemporary Music) collaborating here with the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical (CNDM) as well as the ensembles Trio Arbós and Neopercusión from Spain and the vocal ensemble Schola Heidelberg from Germany.

Under musical direction care of Nacho de la Paz the three ensembles will present a Spanish-German concert to conclude “Series 20/21”. This CNDM concert series is one of the most important platforms for New Music in Spain.

As part of the concert two new works will be premiered. The young composers Magrané and Sarah Nemtsov have received commissions here that are supported by the EvS Music Foundation. These are planned for the unusual line-up of three percussionists, six voice parts and a piano trio thereby creating a special accent.

By issuing the commissions to Joan Magrané and Sarah Nemtsov the project gives targeted support to young composers allowing them to work with first-class ensembles and present their works in one of Spain’s most important contemporary concert series. The project is also attractive for young listeners and students who can exchange ideas directly with composers as part of the accompanying program. Alongside this, masterclasses are planned with the two composers as well as a spoken word event in an informal setting for the artists and audience.
