Portraits – Sinfonietta Dresden

Sinfonietta Dresden, Germany

As part of KlangNetz Dresden’s “Intelligenz” series, Sinfonietta Dresden will hold a concert featuring compositions by Christian Münch (premiere), György Kurtág and Lydia Weißgerber, all made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

How does intelligence, in its common meaning of rationality, express itself in compositional work? Christian Münch uses constellations that resemble scientific experimental arrangements and whose basic rhythmic and intervallic relationships follow strictly rational principles. In Lydia Weißgerber’s work, rational planning relates to questions of the perceptual process: how can something as elementary as “melody” be shown to be the result of an aural history? The work of György Kurtág is important to both Dresden composers. His music, often a cosmos of just a few minutes’ duration, is highly concentrated and tonally unmistakable in contemporary music. Kurtág celebrates his 95th birthday this year, Christan Münch his 70th.

Due to the current situation and associated regulations, there may be changes at short notice. For the latest information on the project please therefore check sinfonietta-dresden.de
