Kalv Festival

Föreningen Kalvfestivalen, Gothenburg, Sweden

The Kalv Festival connects musicians, composers and writers and creates a cultural centre for new music in a depopulated area.
The theme of this year's edition is community. Soloists, duos and ensembles are invited, while an international composition academy and a workshop for music critics will take place. The festival also includes various workshops, discussions, rehearsals, presentations and yoga classes. The aim of the activities is to create a space where all experiences are shared. Artists like the young, experimental trombone duo RAGE Thormbones, ensemble mosaik, violinist Linda Jankowska, the Norwegian ensemble Temporum and the Swedish performance duo Hidden Mother will perform in Kalv in August. The international Academy of Composition will again be led by esteemed composers. This year, however, the participating musicians will take on a larger educational role. The ensembles will not only perform the work of a student of the Academy, but will also be actively integrated in the composition process. Each year the festival also organizes a walk through the rural landscape of Kalv. The result of the workshop in music journalism will be published in the online journal Kokpunkten and will also be featured, in part, in the German journal Positionen. The workshop will be led by editor and music critic Andreas Engström.
