Composition Commission issued to Georg Friedrich Haas: Morgen und Abend

Royal Opera House Foundation, London, GB

It is a key focus of the Royal Opera House in London to promote the genesis of contemporary opera at the highest level. The institution issues frequent composition commissions for this purpose – out of a firm conviction that this, its own initiative, is indispensable for the consistent widening of the repertoire but also to demonstrate over and over again the relevance of musical theater. From 2015 a commission for one piece of work is to be issued each year that will be presented on the opera house’s main stage. The first commission here – supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation – is to be issued to Georg Friedrich Haas for his opera Morgen und Abend (Morning and Evening). The strong dramatic and theatrical elements in Haas’ music make him a highly interesting composer for an opera house. Recently his work received wide acclaim in New York and London – the time has come for the Royal Opera House to present Haas to a wider audience!
