Composition Commission issued to Klaus-Peter Werani

scope – Spielraum für Aktuelle Musik at schwere reiter, Munich, Germany

Over the past 13 years, the schwere reiter has established itself as a major venue for dance, theater and music on Munich's independent scene. To accompany the opening of its new premises in September 2021, the theater is seeking for itself a "new word", for dance "a new movement" and for music a "new sound".

A new piece of music by Klaus-Peter Werani, especially composed for the inauguration of the new hall, will mark the opening. SPUNDWAND 1 mit 4 Hommages is a composition that will acoustically inhabit the entire new space. The title refers to the architecture of the new schwere reiter, since Spundwand (i.e. sheet pile wall construction) is iconographic for the appearance of the new building. An ensemble of 5 musicians will be positioned in the four corners, playing in all four cardinal directions and from all directions into the center of the hall. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is facilitating the composition commission issued to Klaus-Peter Werani.

Due to the current situation and the associated conditions, there may be changes at short notice. For the latest information on the project please therefore check schwerereiter.de
