7 Commission Compositions for the Aspekte Festival

Aspekte Salzburg, Austria

In 2012 Aspekte will be celebrating its 35th anniversary. Since its inception the Aspekte Salzburg society has devoted itself intensively, consistently and sustainably to promoting Austrian musical history and tradition since the Vienna School and to promoting New Music and its performers and composers on a regional, national and international level. At the focus of the Aspekte Festival from May 9th to 13th are Anton Webern and Friedrich Cerha. Works by the two composers run throughout the entire festival. This eminent program is complemented predominantly with music by composers of the younger generation. While the emphasis on Cerha is intended to draw attention to the composer’s later chamber music, the focus on Anton Webern aims to serve as a source of inspiration for the composers commissioned with new works – by means of a retrospective on the roots of New Music whilst still allowing the audience to draw parallels and also experience contrasts with tradition. With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation seven composition commissions were issued to Klaus Ager, Alexandra Hermentin-Karastoyanova, Jakob Gruchmann, Klemens Vereno and Kuzma Bodrov and to two composers from IG-Komponisten Salzburg.
