Composition Commission issued to Alfred Zimmerlin

With its Cendres project the ensemble zora would like to turn the opportunities offered by contemporary chamber music in all its variety and diversity into a real experience. The Swiss trio (flute, cello and piano) writes: “As a form of art-in-time music happens in the Here and Now, regardless of when it was written. This means skill and personality are channeled within music, in the striving to create an audio experience that outlives the Here and Now. Arising out of a molting process, zora symbolizes for us, as the performers taking up this challenge, the search for a path out of the passivity of pure execution and into the activity of message transmission.”

With the support of the EvS Music Foundation the ensemble issued a composition commission to Swiss composer Alfred Zimmerlin for a concert featuring purely contemporary music. The work will be performed in Oberwil, Zurich, Lucerne and Basel along with pieces by Cristóbal Halffter, Francesc Prat, Annette Schmucki and Kaija Saariaho.
