Music Books II: Salvatore Sciarrino's Alchemy of Sound

Louth Contemporary Music, Dundalk, Ireland

Louth Contemporary Music Society (LCMS) Music Books II focuses on the wonderful music of Salvatore Sciarrino who has agreed to visit Ireland for the first time. LCMS believes that Music Books is an ideal vehicle to present contemporary music in a rural setting. Supported by the EvS Music Foundation, three performances will take place over two days, featuring among others Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Matteo Cesari, Quartetto Prometeo and Valentina Coladonato.

At the first concert on June 23rd, Sciarrino’s Vanitas will be performed by renowned Sciarrino collaborators. The following day, first there will be a performance of La perfezione di uno spirito sottile, which transports the listener into a world of suspended time, with a sensual text from poetry found on ancient gold plates in Crete. Later on, Paul Griffiths will interview Sciarrino about his works and the compositional process. The final concert will be a composer portrait of Salvatore Sciarrino with the composer attending, at which the works include solo flute pieces, a string quartet and the Irish premiere of a new work for flute. Furthermore, the Neue Vocalsolisten will perform one of Sciarrino's vocal masterpieces, the 12 Madrigali.
