“Neue Musik” Summer Academy

Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, Germany

At German music academies the music repertoire particularly from the second half of the 20th century is generally still treated somewhat like a poor relation. While numerous ensembles or even institutes for New Music have formed, integration of the relevant repertoire into one-to-one lessons and small chamber music line-ups is still lacking. The courses at the Gasteig Summer Academy are attempting to rectify just this situation. Prominent performers of the most important instruments will focus on precisely this repertoire in open master classes, flanked by workshops for chamber music as well as lectures and seminars on aesthetic interpretation and instrument-specific issues. The event spectrum is to be supplemented by workshop concerts, solo concerts by the lecturers and academy concerts where the teachers are to perform alongside selected course participants. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the “Neue Musik” Summer Academy which is aimed not only at students from German and international educational establishments but also at freelance performers who wish to further train or specialize in the field of New Music.
