Composition Commissions issued to Moritz Eggert, Márton Illés, Wilhelm Killmayer, Aribert Reimann, Wolfgang Rihm, ...

Kissinger Sommer

The affinity with song that features as a firm fixture in the festival program of the Kissinger Festspiel prompted a desire for new songs of our times. The Kissinger LiederWerkstatt, a song workshop held as part of the Summer Festival, has set itself the task of issuing composition commissions for voice and piano every year. In 2011 composers Moritz Eggert, Márton Illés, Wilhelm Killmayer, Aribert Reimann, Wolfgang Rihm, Peter Ruzicka and Manfred Trojahn will be placing the poets Clemens Brentano and Rainer Maria Rilke at the focus of their works with the support of the EvS Music Foundation. In two concerts the new compositions will be juxtaposed with works by Mahler, Strauss and Hindemith, who also set the two poets’ texts to music. In the exciting combination of old and new a concert dramaturgy arises through which the audience can gain entirely new insights into the song genre. The workshop feel is achieved through the preparatory phase of the two concerts in which the new works are elaborated with four singers and three pianists.
