Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice 2016

Callithumpian Consort, Cambridge Massachusetts, USA

The 20th annual Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice (SICPP) features Composer-in-Residence Vinko Globokar. Internationally recognized, Globokar is legendary in new music circles but outside of a few pieces his music is not widely known in the United States.
Alongside the evening concerts, many of Globokar's works will be rehearsed by selected SICPP Fellows. Globokar will work closely with the Callithumpian Consort and SICPP Fellows in rehearsal and conduct performances of his works with the both the Consort and the SICPP Fellows at the concluding 8-hour marathon concert, which will also include a great range of music from the last 75 years.
SICPP 2016, which is again supported by the EvS Music Foundation, will host the internationally acclaimed pianist Marilyn Nonken, who will give a solo recital and masterclass. Nonken’s repertoire includes the complete piano music of Schoenberg and Boulez, as well as works by pioneers of the New York School, New Complexity and musique spectrale, with performances from Carnegie Hall to the Festival d’Automne in Paris.
SICPP actively engages its audiences with New Music and challenges traditional notions of classical music, offering participants and the public a concentrated, representative and contextualized sampling of the guest composer’s music.
