Yellow Barn presents a retrospective of James MacMillan’s chamber music including rarely performed works and major North American and regional premieres. MacMillan will collaborate both with Yellow Barn musicians and with the audience in concerts and rehearsals. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is enabling the Composer Residency via its portrait concerts whose program includes the likes of ...as others see us... for mixed ensemble (1990), Cummock Fair for piano sextet (1999), Etwas zurückhaltend for string quartet (2008), Fourteen Little Pictures for piano trio (1997), Quintet for French Horn and String Quartet (2007), Raising Sparks for mezzo soprano and ensemble (1997), The Road to Ardtalla for chamber sextet (1983), Seraph for trumpet and string orchestra (2010), Tuirreadh for clarinet and string quartet (1991), Cello Sonata No. 2 (2000); String Quartet No.3 (2007) and Warum ist diese Nacht anders? for string quartet (1998).
