Harmony of the Spheres XV – "Divertimenti"

Slovene Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra Association, Slovenia

“Divertimenti” is the sub-heading of the 15th concert series "Harmony of the Spheres” that combines lectures and concerts. In the 18th century “divertimento” belonged to the upper echelons of light music. It often took the form of a sonata and was primarily aimed at delighting the audience.
The concert series encourages young composers to interpret the form of divertimento in a modern and contemporary way. At the same time, it presents key “divertimenti” from various eras. This is aimed at opening up contemporary chamber music to a larger audience.
For the concert series three compositions will be commissioned with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation: a concert for two basses and string orchestra by Tomaž Bajželj, a divertimento for violoncello and string orchestra by Nina Šenk as well as a concert for accordion and chamber string orchestra by Matej Bonin. All three musicians are young Slovenian composers that have already made a name for themselves at home as well as abroad. Precluding every performance will be a short discussion with the relevant composer.
