Composition Commission issued to Mark-Anthony Turnage

International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove, London, United Kingdom

With the support of the EvS Music Foundation IMS Prussia Cove will be issuing a composition commission for piano quintet to Mark Anthony Turnage. Inspired by Schubert’s Trout Quintet with a line-up featuring violin, viola, violoncello, double bass and piano this is a new work aimed at extending the repertoire of classic chamber music. The debut performance of the quintet will be preceded by a week’s rehearsal in Cornwall where musicians and the composer will be able to intensely explore the new work in a secluded environment.

After its premiere in Cornwall the piece will then be performed on a UK tour lasting several days ending with a performance at London’s renowned Wigmore Hall. The piano quintet boasts top musicians from throughout the world: Matthew McDonald, solo bassist at the Berlin Philharmonic, pianist Tom Poster, Mikayal Hakhnazaryan, member of the Kuss Quartet and solo cellist at the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the young violinist Savitri Grier and young viola player Benedikt Schneider.
