Eduard Erdmann – A Musician in between worlds

Eduard-Erdmann-Gesellschaft e.V., Süderbrarup, Germany

The symposium focuses on the until now musicologically little regarded childhood and teenage years of the Baltic-German composer and pianist Eduard Erdmann who was committed not only to the classical repertoire but also, primarily, to performing contemporary music. Before moving to Berlin, the composer lived in Riga which is why the project is being held there primarily focusing on his music teachers in Riga and the historical setting of the day. In addition to the speakers and excursions featured as part of the symposium supported by the EvS Music Foundation two concerts will be held in the Great Hall of the Latvian Music Academy. At the performances works by Erdmann’s Riga teachers will be juxtaposed with his own compositions.
