Composition Commission issued to Brett Dean marking the 200th Anniversary of Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra

Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra, Germany

November 2, 1825, saw the holding of the first concert in Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra’s debut season. To mark the 200th anniversary on November 2, 2025, a revival of this concert will be held as part of the Philharmonic Concerts. In addition to those works already performed in 1825, an orchestral work by a contemporary composer will be premiered.
Australian composer Brett Dean will be creating a 30-minute orchestral work with tenor aria for the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra and as part of the commission will explore the entire 200-year history of the orchestra as well as the city of Bremen as a location. Striking a balance between history and modernity, the premiere will be conducted by General Music Director Marko Letonja and sponsored by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
