Composition Commission issued to Lalo Schifrin

Quattrocelli, Leipzig

Time and again cello quartet Quattrocelli seeks to premiere new works for this special orchestration – one that has featured to an increasing extent at chamber music events over the past few years. Composers like Werner Egk or Ivan Shekov have already composed for the four young cellists who are now enjoying considerable concert success, especially in the USA. It was there that film score composer Lalo Schifrin (of Mission Impossible fame) was made aware of the quartet and wrote a piece for Quattrocelli with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. Schifrin has already received four Grammies for his music as well as six Oscar nominations. In his compositions Schifrin combines elements from classical music with jazz and modern composition techniques of the 20th century. He has already written for the London Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Paris Philharmonic Orchestra. He studied under Olivier Messiaen and Charles Koechlin. The work for Quattrocelli will be performed for the first time as part of the Cello Academy in Rutesheim.
