Composition Commission issued to Gérard Pesson

With its festival motto "Fauré returns to Lugano", La Via Lattea 17 is dedicated to Gabriel Fauré and contemporary composers inspired by him. Frenchman Gérard Pesson (*1958), a Fauré expert, listens to the composer's music with today's ears and has been commissioned by the Teatro del Tempo to write a composition for voice and ensemble. The commission issued to Pesson has been made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. Further commissioned works by Johannes Schöllhorn (*1962), Mario Pagliarani (*1963) and Jürg Frey (*1953) will be premiered during the festival.

La Via Lattea 17 establishes an exciting dialogue between past and present, both in an artistic sense and as a reflection of the relationship between music and places. In cooperation with the Istituto internazionale di architettura, this provides an opportunity to reflect on the transformation of the city of Lugano.
