Composition Commission issued to Klaus Lang

Munich Chamber Orchestra

Munich Chamber Orchestra boasts an exceptionally creative program and homogeneous sound which it has developed consistently over time. Since Chistoph Poppen took over artistic direction in 1995 founding the orchestra’s unmistakable dramaturgical profile, its musicians have delighted audiences with over thirty debut performances. By regularly issuing composition commissions the Munich Chamber Orchestra (MKO) is able to constantly extend its repertoire. With the support of the EvS Music Foundation one of the commissions for the 2010/2011 season will be going to Austrian Klaus Lang. Lang has frequently undertaken intense explorations of Baroque music. In program terms his work is compared to works such as “Stabat mater” and “Orfeo-Kantate” by Italian 18th century composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. The debut performance will be held on June 3rd 2011 in the Orangerie of the Herrenhäuser Gärten near Hanover while a further concert will also be held in June at the Prinzregententheater in Munich.
