2nd International Clarinet Competition Freiburg – Composition Commission issued to Kaija Saariaho

International Music Competitions Freiburg

The Freiburg International Clarinet Competition already reaped great acclaim at its first edition in 2009. Programming in the first and second rounds focalizes contemporary music. This is then intensified in the final round where a classic clarinet concert with orchestral accompaniment will feature alongside the soloist’s piece by Kaija Saariaho commissioned with the support of the EvS Music Foundation as the highlight of the event. Experience from the first competition shows some 40 participants from throughout the world can be expected, ten to twelve of whom will reach the second round. The final will be fought out by three musicians.
