10th Anniversary of ensemble proton bern – Composition Commission issued to Samuel Andreyev

ensemble proton bern, Switzerland

114 concerts – 262 works – 174 composers – 164 world premieres: That's 10 years of ensemble proton in numbers. What the figures do not tell us about is the ensemble's relationship with composers, colleagues and audiences – because there are faithful companions across all groups. The ensemble will therefore be commissioning some of its most loyal accompanists to write a composition for its anniversary season in 2020. Among them is the Strasbourg-based composer Samuel Andreyev, with whom the ensemble has a long-standing artistic partnership – two joint CDs bear witness to this. Andreyev is writing a 30-minute work for the ensemble to be premiered in October 2020. The program will also include a work by the Swiss composer Nadir Vassena as well as a piece from the ensemble's own repertoire.
For ten years now, ensemble proton has encountered a common prejudice: the idea that New Music must be grasped with the mind. With its witty and passionate performances the ensemble counters this view – aiming to be accessible and sensual while also rising to this challenge in the future.
