Pierre Boulez` „Pli selon pli“

The new artistic director at Munich’s musica viva Dr. Winrich Hopp opens the 2011/12 season with Pierre Boulez’ monumental Mallarmé portrait Pli selon pli. This major work to be performed by the ensemble intercontemporain under the baton of the composer himself is not only the start of a comprehensive Boulez initiative on the part of Bayerischer Rundfunk but also a reminder of the collaboration between musica viva initiator Karl Amadeus Hartmann and Boulez in the late 50s. To be performed by the ensemble intercontemporain this major work by the composer as yet never heard in Munich in its final version was realized by an ensemble whose aesthetics were decisively influenced by Boulez and his works. The composer-conductor will embark on a European Pli selon pli tour with the ensemble in Summer 2011 whose sole date in Germany will be the musica viva concert in Munich supported by the EvS Music Foundation.
