Chamber Music Academy und Young Composers Academy

By founding the Heidelberg Festival Academy the Heidelberg spring festival Heidelberger Frühling has called a new core project into being that groups together both the “Heidelberger Atelier” workshop and the string quartet festival “Streichquartettfest”. In content terms the Festival Academy is divided into the EvS Music Foundation-funded Chamber Music Academy and Young Composers’ Academy as well as the Lied Academy (Song Academy) and the Academy for Cultural Journalism. The Chamber Music Academy and Young Composers’ Academy will be held for the first time in 2011 from April 11th to 17th in cooperation with the University of Heidelberg which will be providing premises in Heidelberg’s old town as rehearsal and concert venues. Forming the core here will be an ensemble line-up featuring internationally acclaimed musicians and stipend recipients who will develop and then perform selected concert programs in open rehearsals and workshops. In addition to preparing the chamber music creations of Beethoven and his successors, the program will also include the preparation and performance of, and acquaintance with, works by young composers. In this context a composition workshop will be devoted to American Ryan Carter, winner of the people’s choice “Heidelberger Atelier 2010” award. 2011 will once again see a prize being awarded to one of the young composition stipend recipients – a prize that will also include an invitation to return to the Heidelberger Frühling festival. Various event formats like lunch concerts, after-work concerts as well as workshops, theme-specific lectures and hosted discussion panels round off the academy and are intended to make the audience and artists aware of current developments and trends in contemporary music.
