Georg Friedrich Haas – …auf schwankendem Boden… - 11.000 Saiten

Berliner Festspiele / Musikfest Berlin, Germany

... auf schwankendem Boden ... – 11.000 Saiten (on shaky ground … – 11,000 strings) is the title of a new, roughly 60-minute work by Georg Friedrich Haas, a composer who was born in Graz in 1953 and who now teaches at Columbia University in New York. The instrumental configuration and line-up go beyond customary concert stage formats: Required are 50 microtonally tuned pianos of the same type, 50 pianists, a 25-piece instrumental ensemble (woodwind, brass, string, keyboard and percussion instruments), supporting electronic equipment, and a large presentation venue that can be configured into a sound space, turning the circular arrangement of the 75 performers into a sound installation. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is making the performance possible for the 70th anniversary of the Berliner Festspiele in 2021.

Due to the current situation and associated regulations, there may be changes at short notice. For the latest information on the project please therefore check berlinerfestspiele.de
