The international Gaudeamus Muziekweek festival has not only set itself the task of consistently presenting New Music but also offering a forum to young, aspiring yet still unknown composers in this field. According to its own information, 90 per cent of the works in the festival program come from the pens of composers who are right at the start of their careers. The EvS Music Foundation is once again supporting this year’s festival. A central component of the festival is the Gaudeamus Award. An international jury has named five candidates this year as possible prize winners:

• James O’Callaghan (1988, Canada)

• David Bird (1990, USA)

• Anthony Vine (1988, USA)

• Shih-Wei Lo (1985, Taiwan)

• Giulio Colangelo (1986, Italy)

Each of the young composers will be presented as part of the festival with three works – in each case one of these being a composition commission.
