CO|:N:|ECT

Ensemble via nova is a full-time professional chamber music ensemble for New Music in the Free State of Thuringia. As a conductor-free ensemble it is dedicated to the performance of New Music enabling extraordinary new projects that incorporate electronics and scenic elements. 2018 saw the ensemble launch a new concert series in Erfurt where few events featuring New Music are held. The success of this move demonstrated how much interest there is in giving New Music a regular podium. In 2019 the ensemble wishes to follow on from this success with CO|:N:|ECT and also meet the desire for artistic exchange. For the new program internationally acclaimed guest ensembles or soloists will be invited to participate in this joint project. At the focus of each concert program is a composition to be written for both ensembles taking part in the evening.

The great friendship between the musicians of Ensemble via nova and guests Ensemble Mosaik from Berlin prompted the idea for a joint project. And this is the origin of the concert series in 2019. The commissioned composition was awarded to Sidney Corbett. The soloist ensemble Black Pencil (Netherlands) is probably among the most unusual formations in New Music whose concerts boast virtuosity and fresh originality. For this evening Moritz Eggert will write a composition. Ensemble via nova will be inviting Thuringia improvisation ensemble Miet+ (Weimar) to its series. The protagonists in this concert wish to jointly stage a new and different musical theater project on the topic of neuroses. Johannes K. Hildebrandt has been enlisted for the composition while Magdalena Grigarova will be writing the lyrics. Michael Quell will be composing for the collaboration with Ballett TNLOS!, Theater Nordhausen’s ballet ensemble. And with Felix Kubin (Hamburg) we will encounter a musician, sound artist and composer who will translate, defamiliarize and extend the music of Ensemble via nova into his tonal world and adapt his sounds to the special venue situation at Kunsthalle Erfurt.
