Musica Nova across Russia

International Association of Composers Organizations (IACO)

Musica Nova across Russia is an international project funded by the EvS Music Foundation. Organized by the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (MCME) to feature academies, summer schools and concerts held in different regions of Russia it is focused on further training for young composers, performers and musicologists in the Russian Federation in the field of contemporary music. Due to their tense economic climate and lacking sources of information and musical material many regions in Russia do not have the opportunity to participate in the contemporary music scene in the pan-European context. The MCME, currently the most renowned and oldest ensemble for New Music in Russia, wishes to remedy this situation with Musica Nova across Russia. In order to include as many regions throughout Russia as possible there will be several series of academies, master classes and workshops held by prominent guest lecturers along with rehearsals and premieres featuring course participants’ and lecturers’ compositions as well as concerts by the MCME at different venues. To particularly publicize the work of Russian composers and performers of the younger generation in the EU the MCME will also be performing selected works developing from Musica Nova across Russia at European festivals renowned for contemporary music.
