Premiere of a new work by Younghi Pagh-Paan

Great Mountains International Music Festival, Seoul, Korea

The Great Mountains Music Festival celebrates its 10th Anniversary in 2013 with the expansion of its activities to a new Music Tent. The performance of new music has become an integral part of the Festival, including works by resident composer Younghi Pagh-Paan, a Korean-born composer who has spent the bulk of her career in Germany. With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the 2012 Festival will feature a commission by Younghi Pagh-Paan. Since she won international attention with her orchestral work Sori in 1980, her compositions, which seek to renew the nature of Korean musical culture by means of various Western compositional techniques, aroused increasing interest at important new music festivals and concerts, and she has won numerous awards in Germany, other European countries, and Korea. The commission for the 2012 festival inspired her to compose a chamber work about a poem by Huh Chohi (1563-1589).
