impuls, the ensemble and instrumentalist academy, offers music students and young professional musicians the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the special requirements of playing contemporary music. The activities are varied including composition and instrumental classes, one-to-one tuition and ensemble playing as well as improvisation workshops. The academy also organizes an international composition competition whose prize-winning works are performed by renowned bodies of musicians such as Klangforum Wien. With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation the academy held in Vienna and Graz in February 2011 will be headed by Beat Furrer and Ernst Kovacic.
