The Academy of Composition organized for the first time in 2016 by the composers Yann Robin and Raphaël Cendo under the auspices of Helmut Lachenmann offers an annual opportunity to ten international up-and-coming composers to participate for a whole week at a composition masterclass. In the idyllic Alpine village setting of Saint-Martin-Vésubie on the Italian border, participants will be offered an intense phase of work and exchange to end with two concerts featuring their works. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the composers’ academy at Altitude University in 2017.

In addition to Yann Robin and Raphaël Cendo this year’s academy will see Mark Andre take on a guest professorship while Ensemble Multilaterale will work on the works of young composers in joint rehearsals which will then be premiered afterwards. One academy participant will be given the chance to publish their work in cooperation with Lemoine-Jobert Edition Paris.
