Provinzlärm Festival for New Music 2021

Provinzlärm, Eckernförde, Germany

Provinzlärm is an international festival for contemporary music held every two years in the Baltic Sea resort of Eckernförde in Schleswig-Holstein. The biennial event has a special focus of interest on the countries of Northern Europe and the Baltic States while highlighting historical references. The eighth edition of the festival will look to Estonia, with its long tradition of vocal and string music, but also its receptiveness to technical achievements. Performances of works by a younger generation of composers, both Estonian and international, focalize the latest trends in contemporary music. In addition to purely instrumental and vocal compositions, the program also includes works that incorporate electronic and visual media, meaning the audience can expect an arc of tension between spirituality, innovative sound poetry and modern technology. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation has made the festival possible featuring guest performances by the ensembles Reflexion K, AuditivVokal, the norddeutsche sinfonietta and the Estonian Ensemble U:.
