Unfinished Business: 50th Anniversary Season

London Sinfonietta, Great Britain

In 2017/2018 London Sinfonietta looks back on 50 years of ensemble history. While the concerts in fall 2017 cast a glance back into previous decades, the concerts in 2018 supported by the EvS Music Foundation will take a look into the future of the ensemble. The anniversary itself will be celebrated in January with a lavish musical festival: alongside George Benjamin and Vladimir Jurowski co-founder David Atherton will conduct the members of the London Sinfonietta as well as 45 alumni performing works by Stravinsky, Ligeti, Birtwistle, Hans Abrahamsen and Samantha Fernando. This will be followed in March by an evening of music, discussions and experimental approaches to music as well as LS Open – a mini festival featuring the participation of schools and the public. April will see a debut performance by Phil Venable – a concert-gameshow hybrid. Last but not least, London Sinfonietta will be celebrating female composers with debut performances by Charlotte Bray, Rebecca Saunders and Unsuk Chin.
