Composition Commission issued to Minas Borboudakis

Z is the true story of left-wing opposition politician Grigoris Lambrakis murdered in 1963. It was premiered as a chamber opera in 2019 at the Bavarian State Opera, where the novel Z made famous particularly by Costa Gavras’ film was recreated in operatic form. The music care of composer Minas Borboudakis had a lasting impact at the premiere and is to be performed in Salzburg in 2022 in a symphonic adaptation under the musical direction of Constantinos Carydis.
Minas Borboudakis was born in Heraklion on Crete in 1974. Since 1992 he has lived in Germany, first studying the piano and composition in Munich and Hamburg and now working as a freelance composer and pianist in Munich. For his work he has been awarded amongst others the Rodion Shchedrin Chamber Music Prize, the Christoph and Stephan Kaske Foundation Prize, the Bavarian State Award for the Advancement of the Arts as well as the Music Promotion Prize of the City of Munich.
