Composition Commission issued to Vladimir Tarnopolski

International Beethovenfest Bonn gGmbH, Germany

The Beethovenfest Bonn would like to inspire the most important composers of the present day to explore the innovative power of Ludwig van Beethoven: between now and the Beethoven anniversary year in 2020 a new composition commission is to be written every year that will reference a piece of music by Beethoven. Since 2015 a new exemplary work of one genre has been presented to the audience each year in a series of premieres creating a unique canon of work that illustrates today’s musical creativity in a snapshot of the 21st century. As part of the Bonn anniversary festivities on Beethoven’s 250th anniversary all commissioned pieces will sound out in close temporal proximity.
Supported by the EvS Music Foundation Vladimir Tarnopolski (born 1955) will be commissioned to compose a new work for the Beethovenfest in 2017 to relate to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major op. 58. Tarnopolski’s chamber and symphony orchestra works have already been conducted by Mstislav Rostropovitsch, Valerij Gergiev, Ingo Metzmacher, Reinbert de Leeuw and Vladimir Jurowski.
